COVID-19 is anxiety-provoking for patients, non-patients, carers, and healthcare professionals thanks to its infective potential, the uncertainty of manifestations and prognosis, restrictions imposed by the government. resulting in dysfunction in social, occupational, psychological, familial, economic, and other domains. The anxiety is compounded by rumors, flooding of data within the media and internet, changes in lifestyle and routine, economic instability, discrimination, stigma, feeling of alienation, and guilt. The last three factors are faced by patients and their relatives.

The recent Covid-19 pandemic has had significant psychological and social effects on the population. Research has highlighted the impact on the psychological well-being of the foremost exposed groups, including children, college students, and doctors, who are more likely to develop post-traumatic, stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms of distress. The social distance and therefore the security measures have affected the connection among people and their perception of empathy toward others.
